Chongqing
144h & 240h Transit Guide — ChinaNeighbor
Why Transit Through Chongqing?
Chongqing is the world’s largest city by population (30+ million) and unlike anywhere else in China. Built on steep hills where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet, it’s a “mountain city” with surreal architecture — elevated highways running through apartment buildings, riverside skyscrapers, and the famous Hongya Dong (Hongyadong) cliff-side stilted complex.
Key fact: Chongqing has some of the best hot pot in China — the local version (牛油老火锅, niúyóu lǎohuǒguō) is richer and more aromatic than the Chengdu style.
144h Itinerary — 2 Days in Chongqing
Day 1: Classic Chongqing

Afternoon — Hongyadong (洪崖洞) The 11-story cliff-side complex looks like a page from a martial arts fantasy. The best photos are from the Jialing River bridge at night — come back after dark.
Evening — Elder Mountain (鹅岭公园) Take the cable car (¥5) or walk up to the park for panoramic views of the city at sunset, where the rivers and thousands of buildings create an unforgettable scene.
