Notice: "The English version is only for reference. To learn more, please refer to the authoritative Chinese version." — National Immigration Administration. Fees below are transcribed from the English schedule page dated 2021-04-14 (the schedule itself was first released on October 9, 2020); they are government fees in CNY and exclude visa application center service charges.

Visa fees — non-reciprocal countries

Standard government fees per applicant, charged by entry count. Basis: National Development and Reform Commission & Ministry of Finance, Ji Jia Ge [2003] No.392.

Reciprocal countries

For nationalities covered by bilateral fee arrangements, the schedule does not list a number — all three foreign-currency/CNY collection lines point to the same basis note:

  • 「Visa service fees charged in foreign currencies (non-reciprocal countries)」— "Please refer to the stipulation of relevant documents"
  • 「Visa service fees charged in CNY (reciprocal countries)」— "Please refer to the stipulation of relevant documents"
  • 「Visa service fees charged in foreign currencies (reciprocal countries)」— "Please refer to the stipulation of relevant documents"

In practice this means your fee depends on the arrangement between China and your passport's country; the visa application center's quote prevails.

Residence permit fees

Issuance of a Residence Permit — and adding accompanying persons to one — is charged per person per time by validity. Basis: Fa Jia Ge [2004] No.2230.

Is there an expedited-processing fee?

No surcharge for express processing appears anywhere in the official schedule — its 20 line items are exactly the ones tabled above. If a center offers expedited service, that fee is a service charge set by the visa application center under its own published schedule, not part of this government fee schedule. The photo you bring matters as much as the fee: check the official China visa photo requirements before applying.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a China visa fee?

For nationals of non-reciprocal countries, the official schedule charges CNY 168 for a zero- or single-entry visa, CNY 252 for double-entry, CNY 420 for a six-month multiple-entry, and CNY 672 for a one-to-five-year multiple-entry visa. Group visas run CNY 130 (single-entry) and CNY 170 (double-entry) per person.

Do all nationalities pay the same China visa fee?

No. The CNY 168 / 252 / 420 / 672 schedule applies to nationals of non-reciprocal countries. For nationals of reciprocal countries, the schedule says visa service fees — whether charged in CNY or in foreign currencies — 'refer to the stipulation of relevant documents', meaning the bilateral arrangement with each country sets the fee.

Is there an extra fee for express or urgent China visa processing?

The official NIA Fee Schedule contains no expedited-processing surcharge — its 20 line items cover visa, residence permit and permanent residence fees only. Any express service fee you see quoted is a separate service charge set by the visa application center that receives your application, under its own published schedule.

How much is a China residence permit?

The fee scales with validity: CNY 400 for permits valid no more than one year, CNY 800 for one to three years, and CNY 1,000 for three to five years, charged per person per time. Alterations cost CNY 200, and adding accompanying persons is charged at the same rate as the permit tier.

How much does Chinese permanent residence cost?

The application service fee is CNY 1,500 per person. The Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card itself costs CNY 300; renewal or re-issuance due to expiration or information changes is CNY 300, and replacement due to loss or damage is CNY 600.

Which fees on this page are official and current?

Every number is transcribed from the National Immigration Administration's English Fee Schedule page, dated 2021-04-14 (schedule first released October 9, 2020). NIA notes the English version is only for reference — the Chinese version is authoritative — and fees charged at visa application centers may include additional service charges.

Visa application centers charge separate service fees on top of these government fees, and payment currency follows each center's rules.
