Can I download RedNote in India?
No — as of November 2026, RedNote is not available through any official channel in India. Apple's Indian App Store returns no listing for the app (the same app ID lists normally in the US and UK stores), and Google Play's listing doesn't load for India. The gap is regional: both stores carry the same international app elsewhere. Last verified November 2026.
Is RedNote banned in India?
India's government has never publicly named RedNote on any published ban list. Its official 2020 blocking announcements (59 apps in June, 118 in September, 43 in November) name TikTok, WeChat, PUBG and dozens of others — not RedNote — and later rounds were never published with app names. Indian media reported the app's removal from Indian app stores in February 2025 amid the ongoing crackdown on Chinese apps. The app is verifiably absent from India's stores; a publicly documented legal reason is not.
Can I use RedNote app in India?
That's a different question with a less certain answer. RedNote's international terms don't restrict the app by country, and accounts registered with overseas numbers work normally elsewhere. Whether the service stays fully reachable on Indian networks after the store removal isn't something we can independently verify — our verified finding covers the download channels, not network-level availability.
Is it safe to sideload RedNote from an APK site?
We don't recommend it, and this page gives no installation steps. Google's own Play Protect documentation treats apps installed "from unknown sources outside of the Google Play Store" as the class it scans for potentially harmful apps. An APK copy also skips Play Protect's update pipeline, and pairing an unverified install with an account that may already need an appeal is stacking risk on risk.

Can You Download RedNote in India?
No — not from any official channel. Both of India’s app stores lack the app as of our last check (November 2026):
- Apple App Store (India): RedNote does not appear. The app’s own App Store ID returns no result for the Indian storefront, while the exact same ID lists normally in the US and UK stores.
- Google Play (India): the app’s Play listing is unavailable — the page doesn’t exist for the India region. Set the store region to the United States and the same listing loads without issue.
One scope note: this page reports the verified status of official channels, and stops there. You won’t find region-change, VPN or APK walkthroughs below — for an app missing from your country’s stores, those workarounds carry payment, security and account risks we don’t recommend (more on that in the sideloading section).

It’s the same international app everywhere — in Apple’s China storefront the identical app ID appears as 小红书. The gap is regional availability, not a different product.
Why Is RedNote Missing in India?
The honest answer comes in layers, because the definitive one hasn’t been published:
- What’s measured: the app is absent from both of India’s official stores. That part is directly checkable, and it’s what this page verifies (November 2026).
- What’s officially confirmed: since June 2020 India has blocked Chinese apps under Section 69A of its IT Act. The government’s own announcements named several waves — 59 apps in June 2020, 118 in September 2020 and 43 in November 2020, including TikTok, WeChat and PUBG. RedNote appears on none of those published lists. India’s later blocking rounds were never published with app names at all.
- What reporting says: Indian outlets, including The Hindu, reported in February 2025 that RedNote was removed from Indian app stores amid the government’s ongoing scrutiny of Chinese apps. That’s journalism citing officials — not a published order.
- What RedNote says: nothing, on the record. Its international Terms of Service don’t restrict the app by country, and the company hasn’t publicly addressed India.
Put together: the absence is a verified fact; the legal reason behind it is not publicly documented. Any page that hands you one clean sentence (“banned in 2020” or “the developer withdrew it”) is filling in gaps that no official source fills.
Sideloading RedNote in India: Why We Don’t Recommend It
Searches for this topic surface a whole ecosystem of third-party APK stores carrying RedNote — their listings are exactly why downloading looks like one click away. We’re not linking any of them, and here’s the official-source case against the whole category:
- Google’s Play Protect documentation describes installs “from unknown sources outside of the Google Play Store” as the class it scans devices for — “potentially harmful apps.”
- An APK copy sits outside Play Protect’s update pipeline, so it silently ages: login flows and security fixes move with app updates, and a stale build is the most likely copy to break or get flagged.
- If the account you register from an unverified install ever gets suspended (a known friction point for overseas accounts), your appeal is now tangled with a non-official install source.
This page deliberately contains zero installation steps for any of it. “How to bypass” is not a question with a safe answer here.
If You Already Have RedNote — Getting Set Up
If you picked the app up on a device or in a store region where it is listed — or you’re reading this before a trip — the setup path is the same everywhere, and none of it needs a Chinese phone number:

One honest note: that guide is written for this site’s main audience — foreigners living in or visiting China. The China-specific parts (paying with Alipay, searching for restaurants on the ground) won’t apply to a purely India-based account. Signup, English mode and account management will.
